Rotary Youth Center at Morrison
The Rotary Youth Center at Morrison gives youth, families, and therapists a year-round space to gather and recreate for treatment, training, physical education, recreation, and group meetings. Construction consisted of a 4,130 SF ground-up gymnasium with a warming kitchen and ADA bathrooms. The building meets Energy Trust of Oregon’s building standards featuring solar panels, two eco-roofs, and stormwater collection used to irrigate the on-site therapy garden. The building features a mural from Calm, a local street artist whose work reflects the community in which he works.
The Center for Equity and Inclusion
The Center for Equity and Inclusion is a Portland-based non-profit with a core mission anchored in bringing sustainable change to work environments through consulting services. This project is a 7,500 SF existing building with a full seismic upgrade and full interior build-out and the retro-fit of an elevator.
St. Luke Lutheran Church
My Voice Music, Headquarters and Studio

This two-phase expansion plan for St. Luke’s Lutheran Church renovated the existing occupied facility and included adding a three-story stair tower, enlarged Narthex, fire sprinklers, HVAC controls, entry plaza, stormwater facilities, and utility upgrades. The multi-phased project incorporated a detailed on-site safety program.
JHC was honored to be entrusted with remodeling a former bakery into the new home for My Voice Music on SE 89th and Stark. This project represents more than just constructing a building; it's about creating a space where young musicians can explore their passions, express themselves, and connect with their community. Construction highlights include removing most of the internal walls, creating a half-dozen rooms designed for sound isolation and purpose-built for music production. JHC also removed the front parking lot and created an open courtyard topped with pavers leading to a new accessible ramp entrance.
Guidepost Montessori
Serving infants to elementary grades, programs at Guidepost are defined by the practical application of sensory-based and self-directed learning through the authentic Montessori Method. The original, 4,000 SF, circa 1973 building was solid, but several cost-cutting additions created a few construction challenges throughout the years. Interior elements of a kitchen, bar and massive stone fireplace also needed to be removed for young childhood classrooms and administrative offices. The current roof and framing structure was not seismically safe so JHC added new steel beams to replace some load-bearing walls along with some sheer walls in several areas. After four decades of kitchen grease, steam and humidity some of those steel and wood walls also required complete replacements.
Aprende Con Amigos
JHC transformed this former commercial building into a new Spanish Immersion Preschool. Seismic upgrades and tenant improvements of a 3,000 SF single story URM (un-reinforced masonry) building constructed in 1948. Change in occupancy from B “doggy daycare” to E “preschool w/ office & staff areas.” Improve three exits and restrooms to meet accessibility requirements. Tenant improvement consisted of creating three classrooms, two new restrooms, remodeling two restrooms, office space, employee space, new finishes throughout, installation of a fire alarm, new storefront along the entirety of the frontage, and constructing an outdoor playground area.
The Goddard School
The Goddard School Project consisted of a complete change of use renovation of a 7,000 SF existing private school into an early childcare facility, including a complete interior renovation, complete structural upgrades, installation of a full commercial kitchen as well as a complete site improvement inclusive of new site utility and exterior recreation facility.
KLA Schools of Hillsboro
KLA Schools of Hillsboro is an innovative early childhood center serving children from eight weeks to five years of age and offering a high-quality Reggio Emilia-inspired education. This project consisted of full ground-up construction including full-off and on-site improvements. The new 12,335 SF building houses 11 classrooms, a commercial kitchen, and a full playground.
B'Nai B'rith Youth Camp
Established in 1921, the historic B’nai B’rith Youth Camp is located on Devil’s Lake just outside of Lincoln City. The cabins each feature 2,320 SF over two floors that are fully ADA-accessible and filled with bunks, cubbies, and windows offering generous natural light in the open space floor plan. With enough room for 60 campers per building, these cabins are a valuable addition to this loved Camp and help create a lifetime of memories for summer campers.
Zidell Fieldhouse at BB Camp
The B'nai B'rith Camp Field House is the newest addition to the camp site along the Oregon Coast. This 8,000 SF building is part of the Second Century campaign and will host thousands of campers for decades into the future. Upon completion, the building will house a basketball court and game room as well as accommodate group events and gatherings.
NARA Youth Residential Treatment
NARA YRTC is a 24-bed co-ed facility providing youth between the ages of 12-17 with a primary diagnosis of substance abuse disorders. This project consisted of a complete seismic upgrade to an existing 30,294 SF building along with complete utility and exterior and interior upgrades, along with the installation of a complete commercial kitchen and recreation center.
Northwest Line
Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee
This project consists of two buildings; an 18,164 SF commercial building and a 21,643 SF training center; both are pre-engineered steel buildings. The commercial building has space for 12 offices, a boardroom, and three classrooms, two of which can become one multipurpose room able to accommodate 330 people. The training center features three more classrooms, on-site tool storage, locker rooms, a mezzanine with four more offices, and a large training room with asphalt flooring and 48-foot ceilings to accommodate training poles. The center gives NW Line JTAC (a collaboration between NECA contractors and the IBEW) a place to provide quality training in the fields of Outside Line Construction and Powerline Clearance Tree Trimming for their members.
