Kizuki Ramen

JHC transformed a former bakery, located in Oregon’s oldest shopping center and atop a labyrinth of buried slabs, asphalt, and pavers, into Kizuki Ramen's new 2,500 SF restaurant. The remodel added an open kitchen with spectator dining, a full bar featuring a robotic drink mixer, and new alfresco dining options including a large operable window eating bar that allows natural light and air into the space. The imported, hand-selected custom finishes includes an intricate décor package, spotlighted with LED lighting to evoke the atmosphere of a time-honored Japanese ramen shop and create the most authentic Japanese dining experience outside of Japan. JHC also installed a new grease interceptor and ADA restrooms.

TPK Brewery

Major renovation of existing bakery into a D&D-themed, family-friendly tavern and brewery in Portland's SE Hawthorne District. The new restaurant and brewery combines the joy and exploration of roleplaying games with expertly crafted and presented beer. The spot’s name stands for 'Total Party Kill,' a D&D term referring to a campaign-ending maneuver."

The project included a full renovation, seismic upgrade, and addition of a second floor, plus a new bar, restrooms, seating, private gaming room, and a new roof.  The kitchen renovation included new equipment, a new hood, plus the addition of a microbrewery with new walk-in cooler.

Fat Cupcake

​Joseph Hughes Construction remodeled an existing 3,500 SF print shop, including an unfinished workshop space, into new cupcake bakery, dessert shop, and kitchen in Portland's SE Woodstock neighborhood.  This Fat Cupcake's third location. 

KAOS Building, 1882 Grille, McMinnville

The KAOS Building located in wine county - McMinnville, Oregon fuses two restaurants, a lounge, and a winery to indulge your senses and palate. The KAOS construction consisted of complete ground-up construction of a 13,193 square foot three-story building with full interior build-out inclusive of two restaurants with commercial kitchens and wine tasting room along with full rooftop patio and full site and right of way development.

Mike's Drive-In

Since 1971, Mike's Drive-In has been serving Oregonians with fresh, hot, and locally-sourced burgers and shakes. JHC remodeled a former Subway restaurant into their Tigard location, complete with a new outdoor canopy, structural upgrades, new outside walk-up ordering, adding natural light into the interior space, and a new kitchen with 20’ hood. JHC is also rehabilitating Mike's Drive-In in Milwaukie.

Starbucks (various)

Starbucks Coffee Company proudly serves food and beverages in stores around the world.  We work with Starbucks to build their stores to best fit their needs, which in turn enables their front-line partners to do the work that best serves their customers.  Our projects with Starbucks include facility maintenance and repair, tenant improvement and ground-up new buildings in the Portland metro area.

Kobe Sushi PDX

Kobe Sushi and Ramen is focused on providing healthy, fresh, and natural dishes to satisfy the modern customer’s tastes and needs. Specializing in Japanese cuisine; all dishes are made with the freshest of ingredients of the highest quality to achieve the best flavors and presentation. This 2,446 SF tenant improvement project transformed a retail shell into a restaurant near the Cell Phone Waiting Area at Portland International Airport (PDX). A full commercial kitchen build-out and custom casework are highlighted by the natural wood finishes throughout the restaurant.

Ex Novo Brewing Company

Ex Novo Brewing Company, established in NE Portland in 2014, provides customers with consistently unique beers, delicious foods, and a warm inviting atmosphere for the community to congregate. JHC constructed their second location, the Ex Novo Taproom, and Restaurant, in Beaverton, Oregon. The project included a seismic upgrade, a full commercial kitchen, and extensive remodeling to a historic downtown Beaverton Building built in the 1800s as well as off-site civic improvements and ADA restrooms. 

Bonchon

Known for their Crazy Crispy Korean Fried Chicken, this international chain serves up Korean staples including bulgogi, bibimbap, and japchae. This project was a tenant improvement, converting a former pizza restaurant into a national Korean Fried Chicken chain restaurant.

Tom's Urban

Owner: Tom’s Watch Bar

Tom’s Urban leans into “eater-tainment” by offering guests 75-plus screens at each of their locations. Adding value with food, drinks, screenplay, and interactive elements, Tom’s Urban brings home an experience worth coming out for. Tenant improvement work for the 5,000 Sq.-Ft. restaurant included full interior build-out inclusive of a full restaurant with commercial kitchen and interior and exterior design and build-out.

Santa Fe Taqueria

Owner: Santa Fe Taqueria

Serving up delicious Mexican food for 30 years, Santa Fe Taqueria’s flavors derive from Puebla, Mexico where home-cooked food brings families and communities together. Construction consisted of an extensive multi-phased remodel of an existing restaurant, including structural repairs and improvements, seismic upgrades, roofing, and extensive upgrades to interior finishes while keeping the business largely operational.

Tan Tan Cafe & Delicatessen

Exterior work on the 1200-Sq.-Ft. tenant improvement project included painting the facade and roof, as well as installing a new exterior sign, exterior wood accents, and storefront windows with metal planter boxes lining the front of the building. Interior work included full men’s and women’s bathroom remodels, all new flooring in the dining room, cabinets, casework, seating, and the painting of a mural in collaboration with a local artist.  The kitchen floors were retouched and coated with epoxy and the layout was redesigned for more efficacy and space utilization. Serving authentic Vietnamese cuisine for over 20 years, Tan Tan Café and Delicatessen is a family-owned restaurant specializing in a variety of traditional Vietnamese-style dishes.

Freshii

Owner: Freshii, Inc.

Architect: Schmidt Architects P.C.

Led by nutrition, this fast-casual spot serves up delicious, healthy meals across seven different categories, including bowls, burritos, salads, wraps, soups, smoothies, and juices. This project was a tenant improvement including the installation of a commercial-grade kitchen.

Mod Pizza

MOD serves on-demand individual artisan-style pizzas and salads, allowing customers to create their pizzas and salads with any combination of over 30 toppings. Construction consisted of the conversion and major renovation of an existing single-tenant, 2,812 Sq.-Ft. building into two new tenant spaces. The space was previously occupied by Outback Steakhouse. The improvements for MOD Pizza included a full restaurant buildout, walls, ceilings, lighting, flooring new restrooms, furniture, casework, and food service equipment as well as Mechanical Systems, Electrical Systems, and Telecommunications.
