About the Position:

​

The Business Development & Marketing Manager for Joseph Hughes Construction (JHC) is responsible for positioning and promoting the company as the go-to commercial general contractor in the Portland metro area. This individual is responsible for building lasting relationships, ideally resulting in profitable leads, as well as promoting the company and its construction capabilities within the architectural, commercial real estate, engineering and business communities.

What You'll Do:

​

Sales, Lead Generation and Relationship Building

  • Establish strong business relationships with the intention of positioning JHC as the top-of-mind, go-to general contractor within the target project niche.

  • Compile a robust rolodex of key decision makers amongst architects, CRE brokers, engineers, government officials and prospective clients in target markets (ie: geographically, market type).

  • Gain understanding of prospect’s construction needs, then provide insight as to how JHC can fulfill these needs during construction with strong knowledge of construction methods and processes.

  • Follow up with clients during the construction process to ensure project is being delivered as promised.  Provided necessary feedback to Operations and Leadership Team.

Strategic Business Engagement

  • Identify target market opportunities that align with the long-term vision, priorities and goals of the Company.  Position JHC as the go-to general contractor within these target markets.  

  • Observe industry trends, opportunities and competitor activities.  Anticipate future market changes.  Provide regular, updated written reports and feedback to Executive Team.

  • Strong understanding of the Joseph Hughes Construction business model, services, construction methods, capabilities, target market, people, core values and history.

  • Actively participate in internal business development and marketing activities.  Build cohesion between the groups to improve the focus on targeted niche prospects and industry connections.

Represent the Company and Promote the Company Brand

  • Attend industry-related events with the intention of gaining education, market insights and networking opportunities.  Recruit JHC employees frequently to attend events.

  • Represent Joseph Hughes Construction professionally and in line with company values in all interactions.

  • Serve as the host of booths or tables at various events and functions for maximum visibility in the target market.

  • Communicate and collaborate internally regarding events suited for additional JHC employees to attend such as award ceremonies, open houses, educational events and key networking opportunities.

  • Increase brand awareness through JHC attire, swag, social media and print media.

  • Implement and execute various marketing campaigns on social media, print media and the JHC website.

What We’re Looking For:

​

A successful candidate will have:

  • 4+ years exposure to commercial construction in the Portland market preferred

  • Knowledge and understanding of commercial construction methods

  • Experience in business development, marketing or commercial construction project management

  • Proven ability to generate leads and relationships through networking and marketing campaigns

  • Good energy, infectious personality and engaging social skills for successful networking

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in social media and print marketing

  • Self-starter with solid communication and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
