GOLDEN POLES
CHALET
Golden Poles Chalet is a multifamily condominium building located in Government Camp near Mount Hood. Originally constructed in 1968, the building was one of the first condominium developments in Oregon and became a well-known lodging destination for ski enthusiasts and mountain visitors.
After a catastrophic fire destroyed the original structure in 2015, the building was fully reconstructed to restore housing for owners and visitors while improving energy efficiency and structural performance for the alpine environment.
Completed in 2018, the rebuilt chalet features 29 private condominium units above a concrete parking garage, designed to withstand heavy snow loads while providing panoramic views of Mount Hood and the surrounding alpine landscape.

PROJECT CHALLENGES
The Golden Poles Chalet project involved rebuilding a historic condominium complex in a high-elevation alpine environment following a devastating fire.
Construction required careful coordination to meet structural and snow-load requirements typical of Mount Hood while restoring housing for the existing homeowner community.
The project team incorporated modern structural insulated panel (SIP) systems to improve energy efficiency and simplify installation of the chalet-style roof structure while maintaining the architectural character of the original building.
