HISTORIC

FISK BUILDING

The historic Fisk Tire Building renovation transformed a 1924 industrial warehouse in Portland’s Pearl District into a modern mixed-use retail building while preserving its historic character.

JHC Companies performed a comprehensive seismic retrofit and full building renovation to bring the structure up to modern safety standards. Structural improvements, exterior restoration, and new building systems were carefully integrated into the nearly century-old building, allowing the historic warehouse to support contemporary retail tenants, including the Room & Board showroom.

PROJECT CHALLENGES

Upgrading the Fisk Tire Building required significant structural improvements while maintaining the integrity of the historic warehouse structure.

The seismic retrofit introduced new shear walls, foundation reinforcement, and roof diaphragm strengthening to bring the building into compliance with modern building codes.

Careful coordination between structural upgrades, façade restoration, and interior redevelopment ensured the building’s historic character was preserved while allowing it to function as a contemporary retail destination in the Pearl District.
