JHC Companies completed The Carter Apartments in Portland, Oregon, as part of a mixed-use multifamily development in the Woodlawn neighborhood. This project delivers modern residential units with ground-floor commercial space, contributing to the area’s continued growth through thoughtful urban infill construction.

The Carter Apartments were developed alongside a companion building, creating a cohesive mixed-use development that maximizes site efficiency and neighborhood integration. This type of urban infill approach supports increased density while activating street-level engagement through commercial space.

PROJECT CHALLENGES

Constructing a mixed-use multifamily project within an established neighborhood required careful coordination of site logistics, staging, and construction sequencing. The project also required integration of residential units with ground-floor commercial space, ensuring compliance with life-safety and building system requirements.

Coordination across multiple buildings within the same development added complexity, requiring alignment of schedules, trades, and site access.
